First Silver Get Together

Posted on Posted in Silver

Welcome to the first blog post on our new website!

We were delighted to be joined by so many local residents at our first get-together on 16th June at the Molesey Centre.

The Mayor of Elmbridge, Tannia Shipley, officially opened our event with a ceremonial ribbon cutting after which the Chair of Silver, Steven Harland, welcomed guests and talked about the origins and aims of the charity.

In celebration of the Queen’s 90th Birthday, the get-together was themed like a street party and two guest speakers from the Molesey Historical Society gave a fantastic presentation on the history of Molesey during the life of Queen Elizabeth II. What a lovely surprise it was when guest and long-term Molesey resident, Pamela Wyeth, recognised herself as a little girl in one of the photographs shown in the presentation.

An important part of any street party (albeit an indoor one!) is the refreshments and we enjoyed tea, delicious scones and cakes whilst Lisa Powis, a Trustee of Silver, gave a tutorial on the craft session that we had organised. Silver guests made royal-themed drinks coasters and later signed a handmade birthday card to Her Majesty, again echoing our themed get-together.

Keep your eyes on our Facebook and Twitter pages for details of our next get together on the 21st July at 10:00 in the Molesey Centre. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us either by email, or by telephone.

We hope to see you at our next event!
